I Think I'd Be Good at That
Lots of comics have audience members come up after shows and tell them that their friends or coworkers have always told them they’d make a good comedian. But starting standup involves writing jokes, going to open mikes and being terrible for a while. So most intelligent people don’t even bother trying. To give those sane people a chance to feel the thrill of doing comedy, I created a show where they get to experience being a comic with the help of veteran comedians who write jokes and coach them in taking the stage. We remove all the stuff that can make that first set awful and give them the tips and tricks to succeed. “I Think I’d Be Good At That” is one of the most unique, crazy and fun comedy shows in the Bay Area. And so far, all our Newcomers have crushed it at the show and we’ve been helping people get a taste for what keeps comedians coming back to the stage. $15, All Ages

Bad Asians (SOLD OUT)
This show is sold out. Tickets may be available at the door the night of.

Bad Asians is a showcase featuring Asian comics doing stand up, being interviewed, and colorful commentary on current events and culture. Every month we have a different line up of comedians whose credits have included NBC, HBO, Comedy Central and more! “Bad Asian” is a term used playfully and condescendingly when an Asian Pacific Islander (API) American person fails to live up to preconceived notions of what it means to be Asian. What is a “good” Asian, and what is a “bad” Asian?” How “bad” can you really be? Resisting these tropes of obedient sons and daughters who grow up to be doctors/lawyers/engineers, these API comics are NOT in the “model minority” business. They are in the entertainment business (and perhaps there’s nothing more “heinous” than that). Your best course may be to tread lightly around this line-up of hilarious provocateurs and troublemakers, hosted by Imran G and David Nguyen! $15, All Ages

Capitol PUNishment (SOLD OUT)
This show is sold out. Tickets may be available at the door the night of.

The description: Capitol PUNishment is a fast-paced, in-the-moment spectacle that combines everything you love about gameshows, rap-battles, and "dad" jokes, into a unique and hilarious competitive format. Audiences have cheered, groaned, and loved (often all at once) Capitol PUNishment for over two years. The show has enjoyed a nearly year-long string of sold-out performances from Sacramento to Mill Valley, where Capitol PUNishment had a pilot taping at the famous Throckmorton Theater. The show utilizes a PUNwheel to select a random topic, keeping the rotating line-up of four contestants per show (and audiences) on their intellectual toes. Competitors must outlast, outwit, and outpun each other to get to the final round: a boss-battle against creators/producers/all-around pun savants, Daniel Humbarger and Damian Harmony. Mark Burg referees each round, bringing his own brand of wit to the show, and keeps things going at a quick and steady rhythm. Interludes featuring Daniel and Damian facing off using crowd-suggested topics keep the audience engaged and impressed, as the lightning quick duo battle each other, forming puns and trying to out-do each other in real time. Once a tournament champion emerges, he or she moves on to the boss battle, which becomes an endurance run, with the "bosses" having all the advantages. Can the tournament champion survive and defeat Damian and Daniel? Only a handful have! Who's next? $15, All Ages

Harmon Leon Infiltrates Trump's America / Claptrap
Fresh from sold out shows in Edinburgh and New Zealand: NY comedian/VICE contributor, Harmon Leon has made a career out of infiltrating extremist groups in Trump America. Take Harmon’s hand as he leads you on a multimedia journey into his true-life, undercover exploits with such facets of Trump America as:-Anti-immigration vigilantes on the Mexican border-The world of Christian conversion therapy-Abortion protesters outside of Planned Parenthood.Plus songs! Complete sell out at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland.

Claptrap is the musical comedy brainchild of Meg Trowbridge (Killing my Lobster, The Ballroom Improv, SF Sketchfest '14-'18, etc) and Eric Rubin (Killing my Lobster, Speechless Live, Mortified/The Freeze, SF Sketchfest '17-'18). Their oddball comedic songs bend genres (hip hop, country, German Aria, pop) and sink into historical and topical themes from women's rights to Divinci as tragic hero - all fueled by Meg's classically trained operatic voice and Eric's elastic physicality and musicianship (beatbox and guitar fed through a looping machine). They were recent victors of the 2018 Battle of the Comedy Bands SF and have performed their forty minute show at fringe venues from Redwood City to Sacramento. $18, All Ages

Will Durst & Friends: Trump Year Three
As the sacred cows beg for their pomposity to be punctured, America cries out for a man with the aim, strength and style to hit them where it hurts the funniest. Will Durst is that man. Sweeping both sides of the aisle with a mix of incredulity and common sense, Durst transcends party ties, having performed at events honoring former Presidents Bill Clinton and George HW Bush as well as speaking at both a Mayors Convention and Governors Conference. Heʼs as current as todayʼs headlines. Outraged and outrageous. Comedy for people who read or know someone who does.Durstʼs motto is “You Canʼt Make Stuff Up Like This.” This prolific writer has his material regularly delivered at 8 am every morning in the five papers he reads daily. Ulysses Press released Durstʼs first book, “The All American Sport of Bipartisan Bashing,” was based on a critically acclaimed one man Off Broadway show, which had critics climbing over themselves reaching for superlatives. The New York Times: “Durst is at his sly savvy best. Highly recommended.” The New York Post: “Brilliantly crafted. Satire to admire in a smashing bashing!” The Epoch Times: “A political, comic and performance tour-de-force, Durst attacks both the left and the right with equal enthusiasm. Hits the bulls eye every time.“ Fox News: “A great political satirist.” “The New Yorker: “Heʼs perfected a verbal jitterbug of comedy.”Busier than a blind squirrel neck deep in an almond sorting warehouse Durst writes a nationally syndicated weekly column, daily website jokes, voices radio commentaries yet manages to find time to perform 100s of shows a year at theaters, clubs, corporate events and benefits all over the country. A regular guest on NPR, MSNBC and Fox News, heʼs received 5 Emmy nominations and 7 consecutive nominations for the American Comedy Awards Stand Up of the Year. His 800+ global television appearances include HBO, The Today Show, Letterman, CNNʼs Inside Politics, Good Morning America, Showtime, Comedy Central, Last Comic Standing, CBS Morning News, the BBC, CBC, Greek, Scottish, French and Australian TV. And radio, donʼt get me started. Lots. He even spent a year co-hosting a San Francisco morning radio show with former Mayor Willie Brown. The first comic invited to perform at Harvardʼs Kennedy School of Government, Durst has told jokes in 14 countries and blogged the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Course the past 4 years. Hobbies include the never-ending search for the perfect cheeseburger while his heroes remain the same from when he was twelve: Thomas Jefferson and Bugs Bunny.Durstʼs performances are made possible by the First Amendment to the US Constitution. Co-presented by SF Comedy Day  $30/$20, ages 18+

Stop us if you've heard this one before - four comics hit our stage and do their best sets, then they go to an undisclosed location to get WAY too high, only to come back in and attempt to do another set completely baked. The Gateway Show has been around for four years now, originating in Seattle, Washington. After that, the show expanded monthly to Bellingham, Portland, Eugene, and Tacoma. This year we've become monthly in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Ventura. In October of 2018, the show is partnering with Paquin Entertainment Group and MRG Concerts in Canada to tour several 400+ seat theaters in every major city in Canada. The show has been featured in Leafly, Dope, Northwest Leaf, and California Weed Blog. Several of our show videos have gone viral with over 10 million combined views. Brew HaHa: The Comedy Drinking Game Show
One part comedy show, two parts drinking game, Brew Haha is a hilarious interactive mix of standup comedy and your favorite pre-party ritual. At the beginning of every show, the hosts introduce the crowd to a set of rules created specifically for that show. When comics, unbeknownst to them, break a rule, the audience drinks. A giant light-up “drink” sign will help you play along. A second game, specifically for the performers, ensures that as the audience gets toastier, so do the comedians. Come experience the show that a super famous comedian once called "the worst idea for a show ever." This is a partially seated show—arrive early for a seat. $25, 21+

Troubled Comedy
Chris and Moon adopted Troubled Comedy about two years ago and have since managed to nurse this baby into one of the best standup comedy shows in SF on Tuesdays. Comics love us and our audience love us. We regularly have amazing out-of-town guests drop in, the best local comics, some famous names, and a handful of our comics and headliners have gone on to perform on late night tv within months of being on our show! Chris is not only one of the best flier-makers and co-producers, but he's constantly booked on all the best shows in the Bay Area and has toured with Chad Opitz and Jeff Zamaria. Moon also does pretty well, gets booked on lots of great shows, is also a coproducer on "Bad Asians," did a Thrillist commercial once and is seeing how far she can ride out this female Asian comic thing. This is a partially seated show—arrive early for a seat. $18, ages 21+

SF Sketchfest Standup Spotlight: Lizz Winstead / Laurie Kilmartin
Standup Spotlight: Lizz Winstead / Laurie Kilmartin, Hosted by Hoodo Hersi

Lizz Winstead has built her amazing career hilariously responding to the world. As co-creator and head writer of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” Winstead has forever changed the way people get their news. As co-founder of Air America Radio, she laid the foundation for such personalities as Al Franken and Marc Maron, all while hosting her own show called “Unfiltered”, sharing the mic every morning with the amazing Rachel Maddow and Hip Hop legend, Chuck D. As a stand-up she continues to tour, bringing her rapid response brand of comedy to theatres across the country and in 2014, was initiated into the Harvard Lampoon.

Winstead has now taken her satirical brilliance one step further, combining it with her passion for reproductive justice to form her latest passion project, "Lady Parts Justice," a non profit organization made up of comedians, writers and technologists creating videos that use humor and outrage to expose sexist, anti-choice local politicians in all 50 state legislatures while providing support to clinics around the country, working to remove the stigma around abortion. Winstead’s activism includes an ongoing comedy tour to raise money and awareness for Planned Parenthood and independent abortion providers and to date, she has raised over $7 million. The tour was turned into a documentary short called "Smear Campaign," which won “Best Documentary Comedy Short” at the Atlanta Documentary Film Festival. Her advocacy work has been recognized by many reproductive rights organizations including NARAL Champion’s of Choice awards.

In addition to performing and reproductive justice work, Winstead authored "Lizz Free Or Die," a funny and touching book of personal essays, that Elle magazine called, “Sharply witty and iconoclastic”. Lizz’s talents as a comedian and media visionary have been recognized by The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Entertainment Weekly’s 100 most Creative People issue among other print media. Winstead continues to appear on Comedy Central, HBO’s "Real Time With Bill Maher" and NPR, as well as her regular commentary on MSNBC.

Winstead has a lot to say about politics and currents events, and when she says it, it is always insightful and hilarious!

Laurie Kilmartin is a stand up comedian, late night writer and New York Times bestselling author. Laurie has performed standup on "CONAN," "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and numerous shows on Comedy Central. Her Seeso special, "45 Jokes About My Dead Dad," made Vulture’s Top Ten Comedy Specials of 2016, as well as Paste, Splitsider, Interrobang and The Decider. The New York Times pointed to, "sharply written one-liners captured the pain and frustration of caring for a dying loved one." Paste Magazine called it "hilarious... brutal, and cathartic" and Interrobang called it "innovative... twisted and dark.“

Before joining the writing staff at "CONAN" (2009 to present), Laurie was a staff writer on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," "Too Late with Adam Carolla" and "Tough Crown with Colin Quinn." In 2012, Laurie wrote the New York Times bestseller "Sh*tty Mom," a parenting book that Time Magazine called “criminally funny.”

Laurie has performed at the Edinburgh, Montreal, Bridgetown and Moontower comedy festivals. She's also done shows for the troops in Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait and Diego Garcia. Her podcast with comedian Jackie Kashian, "The Jackie and Laurie Show," is big with young comedians and middle aged men. Laurie lives in New York and LA. Video: http://www.kilmartin.com/video.html

Nice Tan / The El-Solomons (SOLD OUT)
This show is SOLD OUT. Tickets may be available at the door night-of.

Bay Area POC/LGBTQ-led sketch group Nice Tan presents a take on 90s-era nostalgia. It was the first golden age of black television but there was still only one black guy in the game Guess Who, the Fly Girls were IT, we were all in middle school, and we all attended sleepovers where we were shocked by our white friends yelling at their moms without getting slapped. Our Winter 2019 show captures the magic of this era, blending live performance with all-new filmed content around a 90s throwback vibe.

She’s hilarious and so is she! Jess Salomon and Eman El-Husseini are funny and married, to one another. One is Jewish the other Palestinian, they'll let you guess which one is which. They fell in love in Canada, got married and moved to America right before the last election. Famous for their love, their stand up and their ability to make really REALLY fantastic life decisions You can expect a combination of killer solo stand up and joint banter with a high probability of arguing since these two don't shy away from fighting especially in front of a crowd. “Two married comics fuck with each other on stage, spreading love all over the place in the process.” - Tablet Mag $15, All Ages
